Criteria for Membership

Outside counsel

Currently licensed to
practice law;

Engaged in the practice of Labor/Employment Law for a minimum of four (4) years; and

Current practice area comprised of a minimum of 75% Labor/Employment Law (management representation only)

in-house corporate counsel

Currently licensed to practice law;

Supervises Labor/Employment attorneys within the company (i.e., general counsel or assistant general counsel); or

Manages Labor/Employment litigation handled by outside counsel; or

Current practice area comprised of Labor/Employment Law.

human resources manager

Minimum of five (5) years human resource experience; and

Currently employed as a senior human resource representative for a company (i.e., President, Vice President, Director, Diversity Executive, HR Executive, HR Manager or Assistant Manager or Assistant Manager of Human Resources)

Sustaining Membership Dues – $1,000.00

We are offering our members an opportunity to provide additional financial support to NELC by paying $1,000, instead of the regular member price, to becoming a Sustaining Member.  Sustaining Members will be featured on the Membership Directory tab of the website, with a photograph and description of their practice allowing anyone who accesses the website to view the sustaining members profiles. Contact Vanessa Griffin for additional information on becoming a Sustaining Member and how to create your profile for the website.  We will roll out the directory in January 2021.

Access to Members Only Portal and Email Groups

NELC Members have access to the members only portal, including a library of Conference materials and white papers. All members have access to an email group to allow Members to collaborate in real time.

Outside Counsel Benefits

You will be a part of the Outside Counsel electronic mailing list discussion group. As a part of this group, you have the opportunity to exchange best practices, ideas, job opportunities, speaking opportunities with diverse experienced labor and employment counsel at top global labor and employment firms. You can apply through the NELC to participate in the ABA’s Labor and Employment Law Trial Institute (assuming eligibility). Through the NELC’s partnership with the ABA, it has reserved several spots at its Labor and Employment Law Trial Institute specifically for NELC members. The program provides three days of intensive instruction on the nuances of trying a labor and employment case from expert faculty practitioners and ends with a mock trial conduced at a U.S. Courthouse.

In-House and Senior Human Resources Professionals Benefits

You will be a part of the In-House/Senior Human Resources Professional Member electronic mailing list discussion group. As a part of this group, you have the opportunity to exchange best practices, real time collaborations, ideas, job opportunities, and speaking opportunities with diverse experienced in-house labor and employment counsel and senior human resources professionals. New in-house counsel members with two years or less experience working in-house will also be eligible to attend NELC’s In-house Counsel Accelerator Program (“ICAP).” The program is designed to assist new in-house minority counsel in transitioning to and building a successful career as part of a corporate law department. As part of the ICAP program, participants will have an opportunity to enhance career advancement skills, participate in sessions with seasoned in-house practitioners, and gain exposure to NELC’s national network of experienced minority counsel and human resources professionals.
